Shhhh! Don't tell! I'm supposed to be putting away the fall decorations and putting up the Christmas decorations and here I am, on my blog.
I put the Christmas music on and have been perusing the house, looking at what needs to be done. There, in the middle of the living room is my son's Rockenbok set up. The first thing through my mind upon glancing at it was, "He's got to get that picked up and put away so it doesn't interfere with my decorating." That thought was quickly followed by the Holy Spirit whispering in my ear, "How long do you think you're going to have Rokenbok in your Living Room, anyway?"
The truth is, my children, like all children, are quickly growing up. My oldest daughter is 17, our middle daughter is 14 and Daniel is 10. The years don't slow down as they grow older. If anything, it seems like we're on warp speed. I fight my longing to hold on to my "babies" with all my might with my responsibility to give them wings. Usually responsibility wins the day, but it's not easy.
So, what's the big deal if there's Rokenbok taking over my living room, legos in the family room, laundry in the laundry room (and everywhere else) and dirty dishes in the kitchen multiplying like rabbits? It's a season! A season that goes all too quickly. I'm thankful that I've been reminded of that this morning.
I'm going to go decorate now. Around the Rokenbok.

This is such a great attitude to have. My kids are growing up so fast, and I used to hink it would not bother me. But, it does a bit! Thanks so much for your comments on my blog. I do enjoy reading them.
My boy is gone now but well I remember the days! From crawling, to the tricycle for Christmas racing through the house; the roller blades tearing up the linoleum; chasing the dog around with a bone; the guitar amp cranked to the max; the constantly ringing phone with- UGH!- GIRLS on the other end!
I'd sincerely give everything to have them back again. So, Mom, the Holy Spirit is- as usual!- so right.
Enjoy them and the mess they make while you can for we truly are, too soon old, too late smart.

Love this post. Feeling thankful for my mess makers too!! :)
I do love having toys lying around, they make me smile! I wish so often for a puase button...especially for my little boy who is at the cutest stage & I know how differnt he will be as a teenager :)
I would say it's my PARENTS who are making the mess with their grandson these days, probably reminding themselves of all the times they told us to clean up. Get it all out! Soak it in! Make a mess! Live! I love that in them.
